Charlie played for Aberdeen FC and Dundee FC in the Scottish Premier Division before joining Chelsea in the English Premier Division where he played for the next eleven years. He made 360 League and Cup appearances for the Londoners. He played in the 1966 and 1970 English FA Cup Finals for Chelsea losing 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspurs at Wembley in 1966 and beating Leeds United 2-1 in an historic English FA Cup Final replay at Old Trafford in 1970. He played in Chelsea's English League Cup Final 2-1 loss to Stoke City at Wembly in 1971 and the European Cup Winners Cup win against Real Madrid in Athens in 1971. He played for Scottish League Select and full National teams 1961-1977 and appeared for a World Select XI in 1969.

United States

In the USA he played for the L.A. Aztecs, Memphis Rogues and California Surf in the NASL and was Head Coach of the Wichita Wings in the MISL. Charlie has been endorsed by Wiel Coerver as the leading coach of Coerver® Coaching in the USA. He is Director of Coerver® Coaching USA and the Charlie Cooke School based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was Head Coach of the Summit Country Day HS Boys 1999 Ohio Division II State Champions and The Cincinnati Enquirer's 1999 Soccer Coach of the Year. He is currently the skills training director for the Sycamore Arsenal soccer club.
